Therapy for Men
In recent years, more men are recognising the benefits of seeking help from personal therapists and counsellors to improve their mental well-being. At Wounded Healer, we specialise in working with men, fully aware of how intimidating and uncomfortable it can be to take that first step towards booking an appointment and opening up about difficult issues. Our team is committed to making the process as smooth and accessible as possible for men from all walks of life, regardless of the challenges they may be facing.
A significant barrier for men in seeking better health therapy is the societal expectation that they should handle problems independently, avoiding any display of “weakness” or emotional vulnerability. This ingrained belief discourages many men from seeking help when they need it, leading to a sense of shame that often delays therapy until situations have become severe. It’s not uncommon for female partners to take the initiative in scheduling that first appointment, which is perfectly fine as long as the man involved is willing to engage in the process.
When men face emotional and psychological challenges, they often cope in less constructive ways such as unhealthy eating, or engaging in risky behaviours. I know this from my own first hand personal experience and having worked with plenty of men going through the same issues. For this reason, It’s vital that if you feel you need help in any way, you make the first step and just open up about what you are dealing with.
While each man’s journey in therapy is unique, a common desire is for a clear, goal-oriented approach to treatment. Many men appreciate therapeutic methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which provides a structured path toward specific objectives. However, it’s equally important to address the underlying emotional difficulties, such as anxiety or depression, that contribute to their struggles. This process can be uncomfortable, but it’s essential for genuine healing, and our team is highly skilled in guiding men through it with honesty and support.
As a personal therapist with extensive experience working online with men, I understand the challenges firsthand, having navigated my own past traumas and issues. I’m here to relate to your experiences and guide you toward healing. If you have any concerns about therapy or are unsure about the next steps, I’m always available to answer your questions.
